(Autumn Equinox)

September 23: Why are Day and Night Equal Today? (Autumn Equinox)
Today marks a unique astronomical event: across the globe, we experience roughly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night
How and Why Does This Happen?
Position of the Sun: The Sun shines directly overhead on the Earth's Equator.
Axial Alignment: While Earth remains tilted on its axis by $23.5^\circ$, on this specific day its tilt is oriented sideways relative to the incoming solar rays
. Neither hemisphere is tilted toward or away from the Sun . The Terminator Line: The boundary dividing light from shadow (the terminator line) runs straight from the North Pole to the South Pole
, dividing every line of latitude almost equally into light and dark.
From today onward, days gradually grow shorter and nights longer in the Northern Hemisphere, ushering in autumn and winter, while the Southern Hemisphere begins its transition into spring.
